Step 1.  Corn Gluten Pre-emergent Weed & Feed

Apply late Febraury thru Mid April (best when Forsythia is first blooming) & Continuously

Corn Gluten weed control & fertilizer contains 9% nitrogen by weight. This product is known to be effective for weed control when applied in the Spring (and Fall) when weed seeds germinate. Corn gluten comes in powder, granual or pellet form and a broadcast spreader works best for application. Once applied and watered in, it slowly releases nitrogen keeping your lawn and gardens full and healthy.

By strengthening your lawn with nitrogen, your turf is better equipped to compete with rivaling weeds. It also feeds beneficial soil microorganisms that help fight soil disease and helps to loosen compacted soil. Corn Gluten is safe for humans, anmals, soil & aquatic life. Children and pets can be active on treated areas immediately following application. Avoid applying in newly seeded lawn areas, or areas where biennials may reseed. Corn Gluten will not eliminate existing weeds that are already well rooted.  Application should be repeated if followed by two weeks of constant rain and wet ground.

Step 2.   8-3-3 Fertilizer

Apply mid-May thru early June.

8-3-3 fertilizer is a safe, well-rounded organic fertilizer made from composted poultry manure, feather meal, blood meal and humic acids derived from leonardite and sea kelp. It provides essential primary nutrients in both quick release (soluble) and slow release (insoluble) form that will provide a quick "green-up" for lawns and gardens, as well as feeding the lawn, garden and soil organisms slowly over the season.

8-3-3 fertilizer stimulates naturally ocurring soil microorganisms that aid in the decomposition of grass clippings and thatch build up, help plants uptake nutrients more affectively, reduce soil toxicity, as well as aiding in disease control, soil aeration and drainage. Secondary and trace elements are supplied by the sea kelp and humic acids that stimulate root growth, provide healthy landscape and vegetable growth, support long-lasting blooms, enhance turf and plant resistance to stresses of drought, traffice and wind dessication. 8-3-3 comes in granular form and is best applied with a broadcast spreader. Only two applications per year are needed.

Step 3.  8-3-3 Fertilizer OR Corn Gluten for Stubborn Weed Problems

Second round applied mid-September thru early October.

Step 4.  5-4-5 Fertilizer

Apply mid to late November.

5-4-5 is a safe, cost effective, simple, all natural, organic fertilizer that delivers great results. Similar to 8-3-3, it is formulated with composted poultry manure, blood meal, feather meal, humic acid derived from leonardite and sea kelp. 5-4-5 provides a balanced, slow-release of essential nutrients for lawns, landscapes, vegetables, annuals, herbs, bulbs, container/potted plants as well as acid-loving plants like Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Hollies.

This organic fertilizer is naturally lower in quick release (soluble) nitrogen (N) which makes is perfect for late season fertilization or summer fertilization of lawns and gardens when higher N can be harmful to plantings. 3-3-3 also feeds soil microorganisms that help reduce thatch build-up, help plants uptake nutrients more effectively, reduce soil toxicity, as well as aiding in disease control, soil aeration and drainage.  It can be applied as often as monthly to help stabilize and build soil fertility.

It's also an excellent "compost starter" for your compost pile!

WEED CONTROL ALERT

If your lawn and gardens are overrun with weeds, an additional early fall application of Corn Gluten, in place of step 3, would be an effective and proactive approach to strengthen your turf’s natural resilience to weeds, while simultaneously suppressing weed seed germination.
